Premio's Energy Star Test Service
Unlike most computer manufacturer's who only offer products with Energy Star Certification Premio now has taken one step further by offering an Energy Star Test Service that will assist your organization in obtaining certification for your products. This service makes it easier to accomplish the tasks involved in the process by providing a simple way to get results quickly. With Premio's Energy Star Test Service all you have to do is ship your systems to us and we will provide the results necessary to submit to the EPA to get your certification. Taking advantage of this new service will help your organization avoid purchasing a costly meter, setting up a lab for testing, training your employees to do the test or to simply avoid the conflict of interest that may come with hiring a third party.
What Exactly is Energy Star? |
ENERGY STAR is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy that was created to help us all save money and energy while protecting the environment, from things like greenhouse gas emissions, through energy efficient products and practices. Within this program are strict guidelines and requirements that must be met for the test procedure. Such requirements include: specific power meter characteristics, network connectivity, voltage tolerances and test collection methods. For system integrators, this specification is a voluntary energy reduction program for PCs. Energy Star* is a self certifying specification, which means that the system integrator is responsible for testing the system and submitting the results to the EPA.
How Can You Utilize Premio's Energy Star Test Service?
Before you submit your system:
- Review the Energy Star specification thoroughly (Note: this service is limited to Intel platforms).

- Ensure that your power supply can meet 80% efficiency at 20%, 50%, and 100% of rated output and power factor = 0.9 at 100% rated output (80+ power supplies meet these requirements although 80+ certification is not required for Energy Star certification).
- Although inexpensive meters do not provide the accuracy necessary for Energy Star certification, they can be useful in making sure that your systems are within the ball park to pass Energy Star requirements. There are many solutions out there, but here are some examples.

The Process

i. Fill out the online checklist for Pre-approval. To view the system checklist, click here.
- Once you receive an approval or pre-authorization code from Premio, ship two systems.
i. Production SW image
ii. Worst case configuration (without exceeding Energy Star power limits)
iii. All peripherals shipping with the system including mice/keyboard etc.
- Service Level Agreement (SLA) – You will get the results via email the following business day after the Energy Star testing is completed.
- Pricing – $350.00 per model (set).
Premio accepts the Intel Flex+ card for payment
Premio also accepts Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express as alternative methods of payment. Please fill out the credit card charge authorization form, and fax the completed form to Premio's credit department ( fax # 626-839-3194)

- In the case that the system fails the Energy Star Certification test;
- Premio can provide first level debugging service.
- Premio can provide on-site rework based on customer's request.
- Have Premio send the failing unit to Intel to debug and receive a full report on suggestions on how to modify the system to make it pass.
